The history of Kopi Joss
One of the most popular small stalls called Angkringan is Angkringan Lek Man. This stall is one of the most legendary stalls near Tugu Train Station of Yogyakarta and this is also the reason why you may spot elder visitors buy the foods and drinks in this stall. Many of the visitors even work near the train station so they will spend their time in this stall after their work hour before they get home.
In the early 80’s, there were many of Lek Man’s visitors came from East Java sold Kopi Kothok. Kopi Kothok is a coffee drink where the coffee powder is boiled together with the water and sugar at the same time. The coffee beans were also already boiled before. Kothok refers to boiled after all.
The process took a long time before serving, which makes Lek Man needed more time to make the coffee. On the other hand, Lek Man got so many visitors at that time. Lek Man later made an innovation and he added the heated charcoal inside a cup of coffee. Since then the visitors love this coffee drink and nowadays you may find so many stalls provide this menu even outside Yogyakarta. But there is no one that could beat the legendary of Lek Man’s Kopi Joss.
