It is always nice to visit Yogyakarta—one of most beautiful places in Indonesia. Its people, culture, tradition, foods, and anything about Yogyakarta—or Jogja for short, are inviting to come and come again. Having a beach tour is one of the things to do in Jogja since its beaches are beautiful to enjoy. One of the beaches is Timang Beach, which is unique with its Gondola. You know gondola used to be for lobster fishermen to do their job.
Timang Beach with Gondola
Before now, Timang Beach was only a place with a bumpy road. There were gondolas, but there was no parking area. Getting food seemed impossible here. Now, there are many people to come to this place wanting to try Gondola—the traditional cable car to cross the beach.
As you get to the beach, you’ll see a little stall built from rattans and bamboos. You’ll also find a sign leading you to the path with bumpy stones heading to the Gondola. Here, you’ll enjoy a stunning view. You also can take Gondola to cross the beach from Gondola place to the outcrop right across from the place. The distance from the Gondola place to the outcrop is about twenty meters. The Gondola itself is made from wood which can wash up the beach. It is designed in such a way with metal pulleys and blue ropes, so it is able to take visitors from Gondola place to the outcrop. It is like a cable car only it can wash up the water.
Many visitors who had the experience to ride Gondola said that it is quite safe to take you to the outcrop. People managing the place look very professional and careful. The process of the crossing is organized and people responsible for running the pulleys are equipped with walkie-talkies to make the process go well and safe. The people managing the place charge 150-200 thousand rupiahs per person.
The best way to go to Timang Beach
If you ride your car from Yogyakarta city to this beach in Gunung Kidul area, you’ll take about three hours. It is quite easy to get there. When you get closer to the beach, you should turn off your vehicle. Unfortunately, there are some unofficial stops charging the visitors some money before entering the beach. After about two hundred meters from the stop, you’ll see a parking lot where we can park our vehicle. We should take a motorbike taxi or called ojek which charges its passenger fifty thousand per person to go to the Gondola place which is about three kilometers away.
